Followers, and readers?
It has been what 4 months since I have posted. Wow. I am so sorry. Life has been crazy. I am working on a new story because I am on a stand still with this one. I don't really know where to go with it. I am not giving up on this, but with (my) hockey season coming up, and soccer season just ending I need time to regroup, and just relax. But I hope to get an update in the next week, and hopefully a chapter my new story up hopefully tonight. Thank you for being loyal, and I promise, I am not giving up.

Chapter 11:Travel
I always hated airports and traveling. Even before 9/11. When I was younger and I traveled with my parents or friends I always wished I could just be alone when I travel, but now that I am alone and in an airport I had no idea to get around in looking for someone to give me a sign to where I am suppose to be found.
I have gotten lost three times, gotten mean looks from five year old girls seven times, and have been screamed at twelve times. And now I am on an escalator trying to call Sidney, who still hasn’t answered the probably twenty voicemails, and missed calls that are on his phone. Standing at hopefully the right baggage claim waiting for my bag to come through I feel someone grab my back and pull me closer.
“mmmm, I missed your smell,” Sidney. I was pissed. I didn’t think I was until I heard him, and felt his touch.
“I need to find my bag,” I answered, pulling away and going to an opening, adjusting my New York Yankee’s baseball hat on my head. Sidney must have followed me because now he is standing next to me with a dark hooded sweatshirt and RBK black hat on, covering half of his face.
“Which one is it?” He asked quietly.
“I don’t even know if this is the right baggage claim,” I answer wanting to sit down and give up. Since last Friday my life has been hell. And this whole travel day has been a blow as well.
“Let me check, Stay here, Ok.” I nod, and cross my arms and stick my left leg out so I can release my weight from it, which makes the pain which had started to increase with walking around trying to get down to my destination.
“Maddie!” Sidney called. And I turned around to notice that there he was with my bag next to him. He waved me over and I started limping, the pain in my knee soaring now. Finally when I got to him he asks, “Is this yours? I mean you’re the only Maddie Martin I have heard of, but I don’t know, there could be more,”
“Yes,” I thanked my lucky stars, “It’s mine, now not to be a total and complete bitch, but can we leave?” I ask, and Sidney laughs.
“You not a bitch, Maddie, come on my truck is right out here,” He says lifting up my bag, and grabbing a hold of my hand, and leads me out to his Range Rover. Unlocking the doors, we put my two bags into his trunk and go to the driver and passengers doors and climb in. He puts the keys in the ignition and looks at me for a minute before saying. “You okay?”
“Life.Sucks.” I reply “And so does your airport, and traveling and, sorry,” I say looking at his concerned eyes, “It’s been a hard ass week, and I don’t mean to be a Debbie Downer”
“Its fine, as long as your alright,” I nod, saying I am and he continues, “So I just got off the ice, and you just got off a plane, and personally I hate plane food, so why don’t we go to this little café near Mario’s neighborhood and you can tell me how life sucks so much, deal.”
“Deal,” I reply, pulling back my hat and resting my head against the head rest and shutting my eyes slowly.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
“I’ll have a coffee, and your veggie crêpe.” Sidney orders to the little café worker who isn’t stunned that she is taking Sidney’s order, which I thought she would be.
“And for you,” She asks me with a genuine smile.
“Green tea and a berry crêpe. Thank you,”
“Sure thing, that’s my favorite, the veggie one sucks, the only person who eats it is Sidney.” I was now confused. I rubbed my temples and Sidney and coffee house girl must have caught on because she now introduced herself. “I’m Lauren, Sidney lives in my parent’s house because he is way too lazy to get his own,”
Before I could answer Sidney goes in for the kill. “Lauren I am not lazy, I have a job that takes up my time, and promotions and Max.” Lauren doesn’t answer him, she winks to me and leaves our table waving to Sidney. “That was Mario’s daughter, Lauren” Sidney explains, and then changes the subject, “Let’s talk,” He says, “I don’t think your life sucks that bad, does it,”
“Just about,” I answer, “It’s been a week,” I explain. While another shyer waitress comes over and drops off Sidney’s coffee and my tea.
“Well….”Sidney motions me to go on, which I take advantage.
“Remember when I called and said that David, my cousin was on a date, and Izzie, my roommate was on a date,” he nodded so I continued. “Well they were on a date together, which doesn’t bother me, the thing that bothers me it’s that they have been secretly dating behind everyone’s back for three or four months now. And I mean good for them, but David is now picking Izzie over Adam, and to me, that’s not right, not at all.” Sighing I add “And that’s not the worst thing that has happened this week.”
“Well,” Sidney starts nodding to the shy waitress who now puts down the crêpes on the table. “What else happened? You know I once heard you shouldn’t keep everything in.” He finishes, cutting a piece of his crêpe off of the main piece.
“Well I have Post Traumatic Stress Disorder that they have finally found after my accident, which I really didn’t think that’s what I have but I guess I do, oh well. Oh I moved out, and my mother thinks it’s stupid for me to go to Pittsburgh for a boy I just met rather than go home. But I don’t really care what she thinks. She is just mad that I am never home, and she is always home.”
“Sounds like you had an amazing week Maddie,” Sidney says and smiles, then laughs. “I hope this next week isn’t a total blow out to this past one.” He winks and takes another bite.
“Oh if it is, I don’t think this,” I say waving my fork between the both of us. “Will ever work,” I smile, and Sidney laughs.
“Alright, well I hope Pittsburgh doesn’t disappoint you,”
_______________________________________________________________________
“So,” Sidney says glancing over to me. “I have an extra room in my wing, so you can stay there. It would be easier for me to get to you and all that stuff,”
“Mhhm,” I agree trying to keep my eyes open.
“So I couldn’t help but notice that you were limping at the airport.”
“It’s because I was sitting for so long. Or else that’s what I hope it is because my doctor did say that my condition could get worse.”
“You could see our trainer tomorrow. Or…or wait!” His raise of voice woke me up and I was now paying close attention. “You can come with me to practice tomorrow and then after you can see Denny, our trainer!”
“Sounds wonderful Sid, just wonderful.”
I have gotten lost three times, gotten mean looks from five year old girls seven times, and have been screamed at twelve times. Chapter 10: I'm Scared
A/N: This is shorter, but this chapter was physically hard to write. I couldn't get myself to type it. But with the long weekend I am going to try to write a lot and update a lot. Thanks for my five followers, who hopefully read. Comments are awesome too.
Adam feel asleep at the second intermission and I carried him into my bedroom and tucked him into the bed. Then I went back out to the living area and finished watching the game. After there was an amazing goal from John Tavares I heard my phone start to ring and picked it up.
“DID YOU JUST SEE THAT?!?!?!?!” Sidney yelped into the receiver.
“Yea, pretty awesome,” I replied, wishing I still had the chance to master a move and shot like that.
“Yea, that was just…wow. I have no words.”
“I bet you could do it,” I say partly to myself and partly to him.
“I guess next practice I should practice it then,” He replies, and I can tell he is now watching the game as intently as I am. “This should get ugly, both teams need this game,” He says under his breath, and you can he is really into this game. When the next stoppage of play comes, he then asks; “Do you have skates?”
“A pair or two,” I reply. “Why?”
“Bring them, there might be a little open ice, and I would like to skate with you…” There was a pause and before I could answer he goes on, “Oh shit, I forgot, fuck, I’m sorry, the accident and, oh shit I am such an ass.”
Right off the bat I start laughing, “Sid. I guess I wasn’t too clear on my ‘condition’, ha, I can skate, and I can play, I just never again played competitively. I mean I have a younger cousin Lauren and I have helped her and her team when I’m back home, I have practiced with her. And I would love to skate with you when I get down there.” When I finish I hear someone come through the door, and I notice its Abbey, sketch book in hand. I wave and she pulls my poney tail while walking by me.
“Really? Well know I am really pumped for you to come down.”
“Yea, well I’m pumped too. But ah Sid I have to go, I’ll call you later. Alright?”
“Its fine, Talk to you soon,” And with that I hung up walking over to Abbey. “How are the sketches coming?”
“Done thank god. It’s such a hassle and then I STILL don’t know if my boss will like them because he is out of town for a month. The Bitch. Anyways Izzie still isn’t here? Strange, huh, well I am glad she is dating though.”
“Yea, and Adam is passed out on my bed because David is on a date too.” I reply following her into her room,”
“Goddamn, I am tired,” She whines kicking her shoes off and plopping onto her bed. “I love it’s like nation date night for the usual week and here we are babysitting and sketching for a bitch.”
“Life sucks sometimes,” trying to convince myself that I am not too much of a loner.
“Excited to go to Pittsburgh Mads?” Abbey asks getting my attention.
“Yes and no. My therapist doesn’t think it’s a good idea, and Izzie hasn’t really said that it’s a good idea, you’re the only one who is pushing me to go. I am also worried about the whole hockey thing. I mean everyone who I meet and has heard of my problems will probably ask me something about the experience. Don’t you think?”
“Well since you asked.”She starts going into the bathroom while I sit in the hanging chair in her room, “Screw everyone. Screw your therapist, Izzie, and even me.” She emerges now in our high school soccer pants and one of my Cortland Hockey shirts, “And if people ask make a joke.” Laughing she continues, “Remember when Jeremy asked you and you pulled up her shirt so we all saw her bright neon yellow sports bra and said I want to get my scares tattooed into a hockey stick so I never forget.” She is full on laughing now, spinning me around so now I am looking straight into her eyes. All of a sudden her laughing stops and she looks serious. “Be honest Mads. I am going to ask you some questions and I want honest answers. Do you like Sidney?”
“Yes, of course. Why wouldn’t I be flying to Pittsburgh for a week if I didn’t like the guy.”
“I don’t know, but next. You understand that being with him will bring all of your emotions back? You will be a mess sometimes, and with being a pro athlete, if this thing gets serious, he won’t always be around, right?”
“It won’t matter,” I saw quietly, “I will be here, and he will be in Pittsburgh. And I have you and Izzie so you two can help me if I go back to where I was in high school. Right?”
“Always,” She promises. And the one thing I love most about Abbey is she never brakes a promise. She walks away from me and turns around here eyes like darts marking their target.
“Slut,” She spites.
“Excuse me,” I reply dumbfounded
“Are you ready for that? There will be little girls who masturbate to pictures of Sidney. Kiss a picture of him that’s on his wall every morning. And what about the three girls who he lives with. What about all their friends. Madeline, are you ready for this?”
“I….I….I….holy shit I am scared.” I finally admit. “I’m not ready for this.”
“But you are, Mads. Do you want to know why. Sidney will be there for you, and you will be there for Sidney. And if its meant to be, it will work.

Chapter 9: Auntie
A/N Well Sorry for it being forever. I am going to try to post another this weekend but school has been insane, and now I have this robot baby thing that I would like to murder! But comments would be wonderful
I was woken up by the smell of bacon and eggs cooking in the kitchen. Abbey was in a good mood it must mean. By the time I rolled out of bed I could hear Izzie on the piano trying to match Pink’s Glitter in the Air. I checked my phone, 1 missed call from David who didn’t leave a voicemail, probably calling about next Friday and babysitting. I decided I would call him, after I compared Sidney and my schedules so I could travel down to Pittsburgh and we could move along with our relationship. I found a time when I could go down to Pittsburgh it would be in two weeks for a week, the Pens had a home front, playing Tampa, Buffalo, and Atlanta. After I was done planning, and finding out where a hotel was where I could stay I decided to call Dave to see why he called. After three rings he answered, chipper than ever.
“So next Friday, Julie is out and I have a date, with a girl I think you would approve of and so Adam needs a sitter, and I know you love him so I was thinking he could have a sleep over with Auntie Maddie?” What a greeting. “Oh and thanks for the tickets last night, even though the Islanders lost. When did you get home?”
“Good morning to you too sunshine,” I start with a laugh, “Next Friday is fine, where’s Julie going?” Julie is Adams mom. Dave and her spilt up, then she waited until the eight month to actually tell Dave that she was pregnant, so let’s just say we don’t really get along. “And no problem for the tickets, anytime the Pens plays the Islanders I am sure Sidney will get you tickets, and I didn’t look at the clock when I crawled into bed.”
“YES! You’re a life saver. And Adam keeps saying he wants to spend more time with you, so this is the perfect opportunity for you two!” David says with giddy. “Well I got to go, will you pick Adam up at his pre-school at three on Friday? I can drop off his bag at you apartment when I go into the city to sub this week, I am subbing all week, so I will drop it off probably on Thursday.”
“Okay, bye David,” I end, hitting the end button, throwing my phone onto my bed and walking into the kitchen where now both girls were, Abbey on her phone talking away to her boss, and Izzie looking in the fridge for juice. I grab a piece of turkey bacon and plop in into my mouth and Abbey ends the call.
“BREAKFAST IS SERVED!” she announces laughing, “Good morning princess, I went into your room at like seven, you were out cold, so are you going to tell us about your evening?”
Izzie stars at me with big eyes, “Yea, I wanna know how your night was last night baby girl,” she teases, her fingers like legs running up my arms. “What did you guys do?” she whispered into my ear, trying to be funny.
“Let’s eat first.” I say and the both agree. Everyone is done, and we put our dishes into the sink. Then we migrate to the living room but before I get settled I grab my phone, not knowing when Sidney’s plane landed, or when he would call for that matter. So with my blackberry in hand I settle next to Izzie, and we start a movie, and we all start to relax, but I can tell that the girls want to ask me the same question. “We went out to dinner, with his father, Sidney ate half of my dinner, and his. Then I dropped them off at their hotel, and I came home. Not that exciting like you guys want it to be,” I say. I knew they wanted me to say if we kissed or not, but I don’t kiss and tell, especially if it’s Sidney Crosby, where they could go and blog about it, but I don’t think they would.
“When will you guys see each other again?” Abbey asks, not letting her eyes pull away from the screen where we were watching Pride and Prejudice.
“I might go down to Pittsburgh in two weeks, and stay a week.”
“So you would be back like the last week of November?”
“Yea, then we will go to back to LP like the fourth week of December?” I ask unsure if we were going to be a part of Holiday festivities.
“Yea, my mother needs help with all the children shit.” Izzie says clearly unhappy about this because she might be able to see her ex-boyfriend, whose dad is like everywhere and is well known.
After our little chat we all curled up in balls in watched the rest of the movie, when that was finished Abbey got up and got her sketch book to finish her sketches and to get our input. Izzie went to her notebook and started writing another short story which was due in two weeks. I got up and picked out another movie, which was Breakfast at Tiffany’s. It was about one o’clock when my phone started singing Tripping Billies by Dave Matthews Band “I should…” before I could finish I had two girls on me yelling:
“PUT IN ON SPEAKER!!!”
I now held my phone over my head. “You two can’t say a word.” I respond.
“ANSWER IT!” They both yell into my ear.
I put my phone on speaker and answer it.
“Hello,”
“Hi”
“This conversation better be getting somewhere,” Izzie whispers harshly.
“I just got to Pittsburgh, just wanted you to know.”
“Thanks, I looked at my schedule.”
“Already,” He giggles. “Do you hate New York that much?”
“No, iiii, I just,” ‘What do I say?” I mouth to the girls
“I had so much fun…” Abbey says.
“I can’t wait to see you again, and with Christmas coming we won’t be able to see each other…” Izzie finishes.
“I had so much fun,” I start, gulping, “And with Christmas coming I have to go home, then mid-terms, and all that, I won’t be able to see for like a month maybe two…”
“It’s fine, it really is, so why don’t you tell me the times you can come, and I will clean out my guest room in my wing, and I can book your plane tickets,” He replies laughing at the end.
“Um well I can come in two weeks, but only if you want me too, I mean I don’t want to pressure you, and I mean I want to take this slowly and all, and now I am babbling, so I can just call you later, and I bet your busy so yea.”
“Maddie, honestly I want to talk about this now, I am not busy really I’m not, I am on my bed right now turning on my t.v. so I can watch something. So let’s talk about this, I want to talk about this, please?” I get up now, and put my phone off of speaker and go into my room and close the door.
“Well in two weeks I can go for a week,”
“I don’t know if I can wait that long Maddie,” He whines, “I miss you,”
I try to hold in a laugh, but it doesn’t work, “Sidney, we just saw each other last night. How can you miss me already?”
“I don’t know really. But okay, I will book a flight, and I personally will come and pick you up at the airport, which I don’t do very often, Madeline.”
“Okay Sidney,” I tease “See you then”
“I miss you,”
“Miss you too.”
“Now you can’t make fun of me because you said you missed me to,” He teases.
“Siiidddneeyyy,” I moan, “That’s not fair at all.”
“I know, I won’t hold it against you, Maddie, not ever.” My eyes roll when I hear that, and he continues. “What did you do today?” he asks, making a conversation.
“Got up at like 10ish and called my cousin, who I am babysitting for next Friday, looked at my calendar, so I could tell you in advance so you could plan, then Abbey made breakfast, and we watched Pride and Prejudice and we started watching Breakfast at Tiffany’s but then this guy interrupted it, so now I am talking to this guy telling him what I did today,”
“That guy sounds like a tool,”
“Naww, he’s pretty chill,” I tease
SIIIIIDDDNEEEEYYYYYYY
“Fuck,” he whispers into the phone, “That’s Austin, I promised I would practice doing baseball stuff with him, Call you tonight, I will have Pat book a flight from JFK to here today so I can tell you tonight, deal,”
“Yea, deal, have fun big brother,”
“Oh I will try,” he giggles, and hangs up.
The week crept by very slowly. I went to classes and mostly hung out with Izzie. Abbey was busy with her designs and Izzie and I with school.
Friday came and soon I was sitting in Adam’s schools pick-up line waiting for my godson, twirling my hair between my fingers. From the corner of my eye I see a small boy jumping up and down with a sun bleached New York Yankee baseball hat on with dark brown ringlets peeking out from underneath the hat. Adam. He points to me Range Rover and grabs onto who I am guessing his teachers hand and leads her over to me.
I get out of my truck and walk around to greet him.
“Adammm,” I say lifting my sunglasses.
“Mrs. Eure this is my Auntie Maddie, the one that is on Daddy’s note.”
“Hi,” I greet “Madeline Martin, David’s cousin, Adam’s godmother.”
“Hi, Donna Eure, Adam’s Kindergarten teacher.” Donna now directs her attention to Adam “Alright little guy, I will see you on Monday.”
“Bye Mrs. Eure!” Adam waves and opening the truck’s backseat door on the passenger side. “So Auntie Maddie, we are watching the hockey game tonight right?”
“Why,” I start closing the door and jogging to my door, and opening it. “yes we are” I continue. “You think we wouldn’t. I was thinking we make our own pizza’s and watch the Islanders beat the Habs. Oh and we also have cookie and cream ice cream, your favorite!” I say getting a little too over excited about our night.
“Sweeeeeeet,” Adam replied. “Dad packed my PSP right? If he forgot it I am gonna kill ‘im.”
“Yea, and I double checked. You know how your father can be.”
“Yeaa,” he agreed.
The night with Adam was refreshing. Abbey was working, er, sketching and Izzie left a note saying she was on a date, so that left Adam and I working on our pizzas singing to the top 40 radio station I had on. When I was with Adam I became the five year old who had the same responsibilities as a twenty year old had.
“I cann make your bedrock, GIRL!” Adam screamed not knowing what exactly he was screaming, while playing god knows what on his PSP.
I popped the pizzas into the oven and got out Sprite, Adam’s drink of choice, and set out bar with plates and napkins. Twenty minutes later the pizzas are done and Adam is tearing his apart counting down until game time. When he is done with the pizza he changes into his pj’s and I clean up our mess. Then I change into comfy sweats dish out some ice cream and settle down next to Adam watching the game start, and start to wonder how long it would be until I can have my own Adam and cuddle and watch a hockey game.

Chapter 8: Meet the Father
A/N I love writing this story, really just love it. If anyone is reading it please comment and share with friends and/or people who love fan fictions. And I hope everyone likes this update!
We ended up taking my SUV, Sidney driving with Troy in the passenger’s seat fighting over where to eat. Troy wanted a nice steak, while Sidney wanted pasta, real Italian pasta where he couldn’t eat at a steak house. We were stuck in traffic, which only added fuel to the father v son fire because they actually had time to fight it out. Meanwhile I sat in the hump seat in the back seat checking my e-mails, and texts on my blackberry trying to block out the war that was going on in the front of my car.
“Fine Dad, we will just ask her.” Sidney said with way to much confidence in his voice which scared me. “Maddie; Italian or American.”
Doesn’t he mean steak? Way to put me in the middle of this situation boys. They both turn around at the same time, looking at me with this look in their eyes. “Well actually… personally… I kinda feel like Chinese, or Japanese, but I would eat anywhere, I am not that fussy. I mean you guys feel like McDonalds, I’ll eat there, Subway, I’ll eat there, Panera, I’ll ear there.” But when I finish they both change the look in their eyes, this time it is filled with laughter, little school boy laughter. Sidney can’t hold it any longer and starts wailing like a kid, and Troy starts soon after but his laugh is an adult giggle, which doesn’t overpower Sidney’s. “What?” I ask unaware of why they are laughing like I would if I was watching the Hangover.
“We were talking about baseball” Troy says in-between bellows.
“But I thought you two were talking about where we are eating” I stutter out, know realizing that I was out of it for a while.
“We were,” Sidney answers now containing his laughter. “Until you mumbled something about the Yankees, and then my dad and I were talking about baseball.”
“When did you start talking about baseball?” I ask suddenly so confused and lost.
“Like ten minutes ago,” Troy answers, “Here I will fill you in, Sid over here like the Pirates, while I like to stick to a traditional team, the Yankees. So we asked if the two ever met in the play offs,” Which they never will I thought, ha, I mean the Pirates, what’s their record negative two? “Which team would win?”
“Yankees,” I answer not even thinking about it, I mean that’s common sense here.
“THAT’S BULL SHIT!” Sidney yells startling Troy and I “The Pirates would kill their prissy asses.” He says coping an attitude.
“No actually that’s bull shit.” I mummer underneath my breathe now wishing I said Pirates just so this wouldn’t have happened. Sidney now is giving Troy and I the silent treatment, and starts playing with my car’s dials. I have to safe myself, but Troy steps and takes control of the situation and announces we are at the restaurant. When he get to the table, Sidney faces away from the door, and I sit next to him with Troy sitting on the other side. It looks like the two compromised because on the menu there is both steak and pasta.
“So,” Troy starts after we get drinks, and order our food, “What do you do for a living, that is the only thing Sidney hasn’t told me yet?”
The funny thing is, I haven’t told Sidney what I did for a job too. “I work for the Yankees,” I answer “I am their massage therapist in training. That’s why the Yankees would win in the playoffs, because I was born a Yankee fan, and now I work for them.” I end my answer with elbowing Sidney in the ribs and Troy starts to laugh.
“That’s why I like the Pirates,” Sidney whispers, “Because I work in live in the Pittsburgh area, and I work for one of their sports teams.” Sidney retorts.
“We understand,” I coo him and he laughs.
Are food finally came, and we ate. Well I picked, Troy ate, and Sidney vacuumed our food. When Sidney was done with his, and I was done with mine we started talking but I realized that he was eyeing my food. And I finally started laughing and I traded plates with him. Then the table feel back into silence while he ate my plate of food. When he was done with that Sidney paid the check, while I argued. But in the end I gave in and sat back watching him sign his name on the dotted line.
We all went back to my truck and Troy drove him and Sidney back to the hotel. We all got out, I hugged both Troy and Sidney. Both Crosby men whispered in my ear.
“My son is falling for you, and you are falling for him. I like you, I really do, but think this over before you two start to date. I will like the same if you are friends, or a couple. I don’t know what you have heard about me, if you have, but I am not a jackass. I just don’t like women who will use my son for his money, and I know you won’t, I mean for Christ-sake you are driving a Range Rover that someone could live in. I hope to see you in the ‘Burgh soon too.” “Sidney, I am going to my room, see you in the morning, good game tonight.” He slaps Sidney’s back and heads inside.
And with that Sidney came over and hugged me until my brains were out. He nuzzles his head in my hair. “mmmmmm mint.” He starts. “Thanks for coming tonight,” we stand there for what feels like eternity. I know he is smelling me and my perfume and I am doing the same to him, I know I will miss his sent until the next time I see him. His hoodie is losing its sent. “I want you to come down to Pittsburgh and stay for like a week, maybe more. Are you working now?” I shake my head no, so he finishes. “Call me when you can come down, you can stay with me, and I will take care of everything, airfare and all. I really like your truck too, I might have to upgrade.” He now lifts my head and our foreheads are resting against one another.
“I will miss you,”
“Me too Sid,”
He kisses my lips softly.
“Call me when you are in your apartment.”
“I will,”
He hugs me again, and then kisses me with a little more passion this time. Then helps me in my car and I drive off wishing I could have stayed with him and we could have talked all night.
I got home two and a half hours later, due to a three car pileup on the road. The apartment is silent, but there are two notes on my door.
Mads,
I HAD SO MUCH FUN TONIGHTTTTT. When Davee drove me home I went and saw your god son. SO FREAKIN cute, of and we are babysitting next Friday, David will call you with the details, GOD that was a good game. We are having a talk-a-thon tomorrow I have no classes and you don’t either get some rest girl
Izz
I was laughing, I knew she would like Adam, my godson, she likes every kid.
Maddie,
Sorry about earlier, I was a bitch, forgive me, I need help on deigns and shit like that, talk tomorrow, and a movie tomorrow night, Oh and I want to meet Sidney sometime, maybe he is different?
Abbs
I love Abbey and I could never stay mad at her, and I knew she was looking out for me.
I climbed out of my jeans and put on soffe shorts and a wifebeater tank, plugged in my phone and called Sid.
“Hello,” he answered groggily
“Hi, sorry it’s so late, there was an accident,”
“It’s all good Maddie, as long as your fine, thanks for letting me know”
“No problem, well you seem tired, and I know I am, so I will call you tomorrow?”
“Sounds great, my flight leaves at 11. So how about I call you when I land?”
“Sounds wonderful Sid,”
“Bye”
“tata for now”
And with that I received my second best night of sleep in a row.
Chapter 7: Whats that line?
After breakfast or lunch by the time Sidney said he had to leave I headed back to the apartment where the girls should be home. Riding in the elevator I began thinking, which I had been doing way too much lately, but I guess it’s good to think. How could this relationship with Sidney go on, we would never see each other, and the press, jezz the press, they would tear me apart or if the relationship grew maybe even us apart. When I got to the doorway I decided I was analyzing it too much. When I unlocked the hatch on the door I heard Maneater run through the walls and off-key singing. The.Girls.Had.Monster. Shit. See my friends are very calm and well artsy to no other, and Izzie can sing too, but when you put two monsters into them Abbey goes off, and well Izzie I can’t even describe when she has monster, but when she drinks, ha when she drinks she acts so perfectly normal. Ahh friends.
“I HAVE THREE HOCKEY TICKETS FOR A GAME TONIGHT,” I yelled over Nelly Furtado’s voice.
“no fricken way,” Izzey says pausing or stopping the song.
“You did him didn’t you,” Abbey replies coldly.
“What the fuck is your problem?” Izzey turns to Abbey, then back to me “I wannna goooo, can I go, well I am sooo inviting myself, wait how did you get them?”
I laughed. “Izz, you can go, and Sidney I met when I passed out and he plays for the Pens who are playing the Islanders, and has invited me and my friends to go to his game. I would like both of you to go.”
“YESS,” Izzey screams running to her room. Abbey stood there not budging.
“Are you coming?” I asked friendly, even though right now I don’t want her to come. She hates the game, doesn’t get it, and always complains that it is way too cold in the rink.
“Don’t know.” She replies coolly turning her back to me raiding the fridge. I couldn’t take it anymore, I did nothing wrong. It’s not like she new Sidney.
“whatthefuckisyourproblem.” I said like it was one word, through my teeth, and quietly so Izzie didn’t hear us.
“Look,” She started turning around, now with a water in hand. “You have had a history with hockey playes, as do I. We both know it’s hard for Izzie to be away from Will. I just don’t think it’s a good idea for Izzie to be around hocke…”
I held up my finger. “Don’t drag Izzie into this. Tell me the truth, why don’t you want to go to the game?”
“You can’t get angry. But jesus Christ. I don’t want to see you like you usually look when someone says ‘hockey’, let alone go into a rink. Look what happened yesterday. Also, you have known this guy for what like 22 hours. That’s bull shit. He doesn’t know you, and you don’t know him. I doubt that he truly likes you. I don’t know him but come on you’re an attractive girl, who after passing out most have looked venerable, and come on, even your uncle says it. Hockey guys like ass. And this Sidney is looking, at dinner you could see lust, pure lust.”
“Yea Abbey, your right, you don’t know him. And he is diffrenet, my uncle scouted him, and became friends with his parents, he is a nice kid. And it’s not like he is a lot older than me. He is a year and a day. A freaking year Abbey. You know what, I am sure David would love to come with Iz and I tonight, instead of you.” I stared walking and looked at my phone to check what time and to text David. I had an hour and a half to get dressed for a hockey game.
NEW TEXT MESSAGE TO: DAVID: hey, it’s madds, I have and extra ticket for the islander game tonight, ya wanna come?
NEW TEXT MESSAGE FROM DAVID: hellyea, but my question is how the hell did you score tickets to a pens islander game
NEW TEXT MESSAGE TO DAVID: long story, later, meet us there, gotta go get ready :)
When I got to my bathroom I turned on my straightener and put on my ipod on shuffle. When I got out I was singing and dancing to You and Me by Dave Matthews Band, and could barely hear my blackberry go off.
“Hey” I say, out of breathe and hear boyish giggles from the other line.
“Did I interrupt you with something?”
“Getting ready, sorry, jezzz.”
“haaahaahaa. Hey, after the game, could I ask you to come down to the locker room, and ahh meet my father. Just so he knows, I don’t want to hide it from him, and I talked to him today, after our lunch and all, and he ahh want to meet you.”
“Sure, as long as you score, so we have something to talk about. Well I have to go, bye Sid.” And I hang up. I want to scream, everything is happening way to fast, my friend thinks I am a puck bunny, I am meeting Troy. I could sit down and cry. Then Izzie comes in and brings my mood right back up.
“Are you straightening or going o’natural?”
“Straightening, and I am wearing dark jeans and a cardigan with some pearls in my ears and my lucky necklace. For my shoes, my black boots.”
“That doesn’t help girl.”
“Wear jeans, a tee, borrow my black North Face, wear stud earrings, and black or silver boots, oh and for your hair, straighten it and pull it back if you want.” I offer. “Oh and Izz, after the game we have to go to the lounge, I am meeting Troy, Sidney’s father.”
“Cool, Abbey isn’t coming right, she’s been a bitch lately, and I heard what she said to you today about Sidney but don’t listen to her she doesn’t know what or who she is talking about. But with her not coming does that mean that your cousin is coming?”
“Yea, David is meeting us there. Girl go get ready we need to leave in like a half hour.”
Izzie and I got ready, and left Abbey alone in her room sketching out new dresses for her show that was in the summer. On the ride there Izzie kept asking me questions about hockey.
“So the line that’s near the bench is…”
“The blue line Izz, and that’s where the players could be called for an off sides, where the puck is in the zone after they are.”
“I am so glad you reffed, played, coached, and like lived hockey. This game is awesome,” She yells putting her hands up.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
By the time the game was over Sid had three assists, two goals, and two penalties. And the Penguins won by two. I talked David into bringing Izzie back to our apartment so if I had to cry my way home because of Papa Cros.
“Miss. Martin this way please,” an escort said motioning me to follow, which I did, like a puppy following its mother.
I waited in the lounge for Sidney and his father for probably an hour at the least. When I finally heard Sidney’s voice I stood up straighter and put a smile on my face, waiting for Sidney to notice me.
“Maddie!” He yelled kind of, jogging over hugging me and kissing me on the cheek. “How did you like the game?” He whispered into my ear.
“Thanks so much for the seats, I mean right by your penalty box, that was great, and when you were in there it was great to make faces at you,” I joked. “But uhh Sid, being all serious now, I kinda wanna get this whole meeting my father thing over now, if that’s okay because he is looking at us right now.”
“Oh right,” He said grabbing my hand and leading me over to his father. “Dad, this is Maddie, my new friend, and Maddie, this is my father, Troy.”
“It’s nice to meet you Mister Crosby,” I say putting out my hand, which he takes, and shakes it.
“My pleasure Maddie, my son has been talking nonstop about you for about 24 hours.” He ends it with a laugh. And I don’t know what to say to that, so Troy keeps talking. “Sid has told me that you played hockey, that’s great, he err also told me about your unfortunate hit you took. Which is very unfortunate, but I like how you know the game.”
“Yes, I know the game very well, almost obsessed really,” I laugh and keep going, “My first word was ‘Hock’ short for hockey. I was born in August and was in a rink following a zamboni with my dad in December, I lived in a rink ever since really. I reffed, coached, played, and watched.”
“You sound a lot like my son,” Troy laughs again, “I don’t know about you Maddie, but I am starving and well Sidney can eat anytime, anywhere, anything, so would you like to come and eat with us?”
“Yea sure, I don’t want to intrude though.”
“Oh, trust me,” Sidney starts in, “Maybe with you here my dad won’t beat me for being in the box for four minutes.”
“Four very unnecessary minutes Sidney Patrick,”
“Damn Sid, your dad pulled out the middle name, and I do have to agree with him, they were unnecessary.” I end with a wince because Sidney walks over to me, but instead he wraps his arm around my waist and pulls me closer.
“But there’s a difference, I can’t stay made at you,” he ends with a wink, “Okay let’s go, I am starved!”
“I HAVE THREE HOCKEY TICKETS FOR A GAME TONIGHT,” I yelled over Nelly Furtado’s voice.
“no fricken way,” Izzey says pausing or stopping the song.

Chapter 6: Slowly
Okay, I am new to this, and I would love to keep writing this and stuff, but if no one is reading this I might just have to quit, and keep to reading. But I hope people like this update, its kind of boring, I promise if i do continue it will get more interesting.
“You can’t hate him, maybe you are just mad at the moment?”
“No, I am pretty sure I have some hate in there”
“Do you want to talk about it?” I could tell he was thinking about the question long and hard. I started to think I was going too far in but my decision changed when Sidney finally answered.
“It’s a long story.”
“I have time?” I said softly trying to soothe him.
“Alright, here goes nothing.” He sighed. “My father is in New York, he comes to the bigger games which I guess you could call these ‘big’ games. Well before I went to my room I knocked on his, usually we meet for coffee the next morning before I go to the rink for morning skate.” He paused now rapping his arm around my shoulder and pulling me closer. After that I made myself comfortable snuggling into his shoulder and resting my head. When we were situated he began again, “I probably had to nock five or six times before he answered, when he opened the door I knew he was pissed so I replayed my actions in the day pretty quickly. I signed autographs, didn’t punch any reporters in face even though I was very tempted.” I laughed at that, and it didn’t help that he looked down at me with this strange look in his eyes, which made me laugh even harder. “Okay? Well the only other two things I did were go to dinner, and then do stuff with you, which wasn’t bad. At least that’s what I thought.”
It wasn’t bad at all I thought, maybe if someone took a picture of the good night kiss, which I didn’t think anyone would, they would still be at the clubs at midnight.
“So I was summoned into his room and I was slammed. I didn’t come back with the guys, I got back close to one thirty and Tyler told my father that I went off with a girl. The way my father said it you would think girls still had cooties. So I being me told my father who you were and all the good stuff and his answer to that. You don’t need any distractions right now, you have a big game tomorrow, relax now.”
“So technically,” I started “You were bitched out by your father because of your teammate having a huge mouth because of me being a girl. Well Sid I am sorry for being the reason for you getting bitched at but is it a felony for having a life?” I ask looking up at him.
“In the Law of Troy, right now it is, but I would have rather have done my dad’s punishment then not do what we did last night.”
I blushed. Not slightly. Hard, I think with the heat in my face you could see the pink from miles away. “We don’t have to get breakfast if you think you will get in anymore trouble.”
“I don’t care about the trouble I get into, I want to know more about you. So you pick a place to eat and we will go there, and I will treat you to breakfast.”
“There’s this little coffee shop around the corner, really good.”
“Well let’s go then.” He said standing up, then reaching out for my hand. We started walking in silence, when we rounded a corner, right before we got out of the park I felt his hand intertwine with mine. “Are you sure?” I asked.
“No one will know it’s me,” He said smirking, pulling down his hat. “Just act normal, call me a different name, how about John.”
“As in John Dow,” I replied laughing. “Real creative Crosby” I said whispering.
“I try he said laughing and pulling me closer to him.”
When we got into the coffee shop and sat in the back, both sipping at our green teas. “What else in on your agenda for today, what’s your name?”
“Pre-game nap, talk to dad, talk to Dan, go to rink, play a game, get onto the flight back to the ‘Burgh. What about you smartass?”
“Ouch that hurt, I have nothing to do, and maybe I too will have to take a pre game nappy too.”
“Don’t make fun of me.” He snarls. All I can do is smile and finish my tea. It’s great just to be with him, I am so relaxed and so carefree. I hadn’t been like this since high school really, but being with Sid it’s like I can be myself, everything is off my chest and I am fifteen again, looking at my crush.
“Can I ask you something,” Sid says almost scared to be asking the question.
“mhmm,” I answer.
“It’s nothing personal or anything…” His voice drops. It must be something serious. I grab his hand, and he takes it sighing pretty hard. “it’s been bothering me a bit…umm…. After your, er accident? Why didn’t you go back to playing? Did you not get onto a team or into a college you like?”
Wow that was a loaded question my therapist didn’t even have the balls to ask me. “Well umm, John was it.” He looks serious now. “Sorry, well after I woke up, is that what you call it? I found out that I didn’t have an appendix, or a gallbladder, I had three broken ribs, and some bruised ribs. I had a bruised knee, which still hasn’t healed. And I messed up my shoulder. Yes, I did have a full scholarship to Middlebury, St. Lawrence, and Cornell for hockey. The offer still stood as far as a knew when I was recovering but when I was “resting” I could hear the doctors talking to my family and saying my chances of playing college hockey were slim in the next season which were slim anyways. I mean a freshman playing hockey in a D3 school, not likely. But anyways the doctors go on to say we don’t think she will be playing competitively again. That’s when I went downhill, which is another story. So I wrote a letter to all the schools I got accepted into and told them the situation which they all understood. I knew that Izzie and Abbey were going to school in the city, so I looked and found Berkley which I love, but I would rather be playing.”
Sid’s eyes go soft, almost like he wants to pull me into a hug. I can feel my eyes water and I want that hig more than ever. “Did you get a scholarship?” He asks softly.
“No, some girl from the west got it, good for her, free education and all. And here I am stuck paying student loans until I am forty.”
“I don’t know what to say.”
“You don’t need to say anything.”
“Can I ask you something else?”
“Yea, go ahead.”
“What was the other long story?”
“Well to keep it short, I got depressed, I mean really depressed. But wouldn’t anyone, I mean I had a shot, a big one too, maybe even go to the Olympics or something. But it was crushed because of some girl from our rival town, it wasn’t fair. It also wasn’t fair that I scored the winning goal of our state championship and I didn’t see it, I couldn’t live it, I didn’t celebrate. I graduated with honors, almost couldn’t graduate. So yea, I got a little depressed. So my parents, wonderful people sent me to a therapist and still I go twice a week and we talk about the weather because you Sidney Crosby are the only one I have ever opened up to, you my friend are the only one who has gotten into Madison Martins crazy mind,” I finish now tears flowing down my cheeks. Sidney raises his hand and wipes them away.
“Well Madison Martin,” he whispers now sliding into my side of the booth, and putting his arm around my shoulder, “You are not crazy, and was never crazy. Some bitch ruined your hockey career and that was not fair.” He says kissing my forehead. “And I feel like I have a privilege of knowing your whole life story, even if sucked.” Now he is resting his lips against my ears, and I can feel his hot breathe in my ear. “I want to make your life so much better now.” I shudder, but it’s a good shudder, the one you get when you are in love and you’re touched by your lover. But I can’t be in love yet? I have only known this guy for less than 24 hours.
“I want you to too.” I whisper back looking to see if anyone is starring, which no one is. “But Sidney, I have known you for less than a day, we need to move slowly, and how if we do start to date do this, I am in New York, and you are in Pittsburgh, and my breaks I go home.”
“Slowly is good, I still have to break it to my dad that you will never be a distraction, only if you are being a distraction, and for your breaks, you should see your family, but maybe I can fit inside your schedule, and when I am in the city or in Jersey we can see each other, we will and can make it work,” and with his speech ended, he seals it with a kiss, but the kiss is barely a kiss because he briskly touches my lips. “We will make it work.”

Chapter 5: Something Interesting
Bueller, Bueller, Bueller? Is anyone out there? Well this is a long chapter, hopefully people will like it.
I walked into the door and couldn’t realize what just happened. He kissed me? I didn’t call what we did a date. It was more like friends.
“How was your date?” Abbey sung.
So it was a date? “It wasn’t a date.” I groaned.
“Oh it so was,” Izzie half sung walking into the living room with popcorn.
“Good, what are we watching” I plopped myself onto the couch and propped up my feet onto the table in front of me.
“Some movie.”
So this is how is was going to be. The two boy crazy girls who one night didn’t have a date with someone and I did, I guess it was a date. But anyways they are going to be bitchy because I am, not telling them what he smelt like, and what colour his eyes were. The silence between the three of us got unbearable and the movie really sucked, and I felt like I have watched it before. I couldn’t take it anymore, but I wanted to torture them right now.
Bzzzzzz.
“Was that my oh, it was yours?” Abbey complained.
I looked down; yes in fact it was mine. And it was from Sid. “I don’t have to get it, it’s no one.”
“Get it, he seems nice,” Izzie said not taking her eyes off of the flat screen that was mounted on the wall.
This was my chance to get out, so I get up and go into the kitchen, acting like I was thirsty so Abbey didn’t get anymore pissed then she already was. I lean on the counter and look at my phone.
New Text Message from Sidney: Hey, umm I forgot if you asked me to text or call when I got back to hotel, but I decided that I should call anyways, just so you know.
I smiled, he was so generally nice, and so different than any other hockey player I have ever known.
To Sidney: Thanks, oh and I still have your sweatshirt, I could send it to you or something.
From Sidney: I thought we went over this, keep it, I have a lot of them anyways, but if you want I can get you and your friends tickets to our game v the islanders. If you’re not busy. And if you really don’t want it you could give it to me then.
By this my fingers were getting their exercise too much. I hate texting, why not just call the person if you really need to talk to them? And I started to get really into the movie that the girls were watching which was like watching paint dry for some reason. So I went to my room and put in B*Witched and turned the sound on low. I stared at my blackberry for a few minutes and decided to call Sid and make plans for the islander game.
“Sidney” He sounded annoyed.
“Is this a bad time?” I asked
“Maddie? No, no its fine, I thought you were someone else, I didn’t even look at my phone.”
“Oh, it’s okay, so umm, the Islanders game, I’m not busy or anything so I could come.”
“Sweet, I can leave tickets at the window for you and your friends, is there only two of them?”
“Sadly,” I grunt taking it back as soon as I say it. Speaking of the art twins they turned the volume of the movie they were watching. “ANNE” it screams
“Are you watching Anne of Green Gables?” Sid asked. That’s what it’s called.
“Not me, but the girls are.”
“Oh,”
“Yea, I have watched it to many times.”
“My sister is in love with it. So I get what you mean.”
“So are those two, I swear they know each line by heart.”
“Ha, well if Taylor ever comes to New York, I know I can stick her with you and your friends,”
“mmm, sounds good. I am sure Izzey and Abbey would love it. When we were in High School Izzie was Anne, and Abbey was a school girl. All I heard was stuff about this musical, ever since then they are obsessed.”
“DARRYL” I hear through the phone.
“Yea, hold on, is it important Gronk?”
“I GUESS NOT, WHO ARE YOU TALKING TO?”
“Taylor,”
“OH, OKAY. LATER WE TALK.”
“Okay Gronk.”
“Yea, hold on, is it important Gronk?”
“I GUESS NOT, WHO ARE YOU TALKING TO?”
“Taylor,”
“OH, OKAY. LATER WE TALK.”
“Okay Gronk.”
“I was almost named Taylor,” I say without even thinking about what I am saying.
“So I wasn’t totally lying,” Sid says starting to laugh.
“No, that was lying,”
“Ha, I guess it was. Tell me something interesting about yourself?”
This was hard, I never really thought about it. “My friends say I have man toes,” I say flatly.
“Man toes?” He said between laughs. “Alright, next time I see you are comparing toes.”
“Deal, now what about you?” I was expected to hear something about hockey but it totally wasn’t.
“I am afraid I am going to die alone.” He says shyly, and flatly. And I didn’t really know what to say to that. Do I soothe? Do I tell him that’s a joke? Is he stupid? I mean he could look outside his window. He is Sidney Freaking Crosby. But what I really wanted to say was I would be there.
“That will never happen, why are you thinking that?” I sound like my shitty therapist I saw.
“Look at all my friends, Army is married, and I am pretty sure Flower, and Jordy, and Geno, and TK have found the girls they want to marry. Flower and Jordy both have rings, they are just to pussy to actually ask. God and my Mother, she is worried that I will end up with a fucking puck bunny, and I am not that stupid. Whenever I am home its always either, I want a grandbaby, or you’re running out of time. My grandmothers say I need to have kids because I need to keep Crosby, and Taylor can’t. Nat is even getting in on it now. So it could be a Saturday night and all the single guys are going out to get shit faced and ass, and I am home relaxing. And she asks why I never go out. And then you have the people who hate me and say I am gay.”
“You’re not gay,” I say cutting him off, it seems like he could go on forever. “And you won’t die alone. As for your friends, I know how it feels. I have had one, count them one, boyfriend throughout my life time, and it was hell. His palms were all sweaty, he drank, he chewed, he smoked. I also know how it feels with family. My mother says she will be 100 before she sees a grandchild, oh and my family thinks I am a homosexual. And trust me, I am not on that side of the road.”
“We sound perfect for each other,” He murmurs. When I heard that I didn’t know what to say. What do you say to that?
“I guess we do,” I whispered
“You should come down to Pittsburgh, you seem a little stressed, and I could be your tour guide, like you were mine.”
“Trust me, it would be nice to get away, but I just don’t know, I am really busy right now.”
“Well, when you’re not busy maybe?”
“I would love that.”
“Well I should get going, big game tomorrow.”
“Yea, I have an appointment tomorrow morning too,”
“Wait, before you go, umm would you like to get some lunch with me? You don’t have to if you don’t want to or anything.”
“Yea, sure, will you text me when you are out of your morning skate?”
“Defiantly, good night Maddie.”
“Night Sid.”
That night I didn’t have nightmares of my last hockey game, I didn’t wake up with the sweats, I simply slept. I had no dreams, no aces or pains. I also slept in for me and went for my appointment, which is a waste of my time because I never tell my therapist anything that is going on in my life.
I got up that morning with my glass half full, I made the girls breakfast of coffee cake and a fruit salad, I also left a note for them too. (Which I usually never do.) Then came my therapist who looked like she hasn’t gotten any in a long time, and it looks like she spilt her Starbucks down the front of her. Glass empty.
“How are you feeling today….Maddie?” She said looking at her shoes, which looked like Izzie’s cats poop.
“Fine” I answer now looking at her shoes like they are a piece of art.
“You sound a little mad Madison, would you like to…umm…talk about it,” Now this woman is picking at a piece of lint on her grey sweater that my Great-Grandmother would wear, if she got up and dressed herself.
“Stressed that’s all,”
“So what happened this weekend,”
“The usual really ate Chinese food, my friends watched Anne of Green Gables, and I am trying to get a job,”
“Have you thought about teaching?”
“Yea, I hate kids though, they are dirty,”
“Not all kids,” She looks up now and has this look on her face like I just slapped her across the face.
“You have kids,”
“Yes,two, now did we go to a hockey game or practice?”
“Yes, like always, the Rangers were playing Pittsburgh,”
“mhmm.” She’s writing something down, and now she is thinking, thinking hard. “Someone famous plays for the Pittsburgh Penguins right?” Jesus is she slow or something.
“Sidney Crosby? I guess he is kinda famous. Do you have a daughter? She must know who he is, and I bet she fantasizes about him, does she?”
“We aren’t here to talk about my life Miss Martin.”
“Well my life is crap, so let’s talk about yours; Mrs. What’s your last name?”
“It’s Remouski, and do you want to talk about my life, you can become a therapist.” Remouski’s angry now, she slams my chart or book or notebook or whatever it is down on her lap.
“Naw, but thanks Mrs. Remouski, I would have to start college all over again, and I am already majoring in business.”
“Business, eh,?” Now she is interested again.
“Yepp.”
“Are you going to start your own business?”
“Maybe I will, I don’t know, maybe a café.” I say glances at the clock. 11:00 Remouski should be getting the next nut ball soon.
“Well Maddie, I need to prep for my next patient, so I will see you in three days?”
“Bright and Early.” I say walking out.
What to do now, Sidney is probably still at the rink, the girls are probably doing work. I could go see if anyone at the rink needed help but I really didn’t want to. For March, The City was warming up, it was in the 60’s, maybe I will go to Central Park, seeing it wasn’t very far from the therapists. After the cab ride and I found a bench I liked I simply just sat and watched, and started to think. I am done with college in two months, spring break is coming up and I have nothing to do after the summer, which I will spend at home. New York is great but it’s too crowded, Lake Placid is too small, and to be honest boring. I don’t want to be stuck with some bar-dud who just drinks, and I don’t want to have ten kids who all smoke pot and drink and have sex at the age of twelve. Maybe in the fall I should travel the world, maybe backpack through Europe, or pick a spot on the map and live there. I was deep into my thoughts when my blackberry buzzed saying I had a new text.
New Text Message from Sidney: Hey I’m done, where are you I can meet you?
To Sidney: I am sitting in the middle of Central Park.
New Text Message from Sidney: You must love that park, I will be there really soon, don’t leave.
To Sidney: Oh trust me I am not going anywhere.
While waiting for Sidney I watched people. The first people I watched were a young couple, probably my age walking hand in hand, whispering to each other, probably saying how much they love eachother, and how they will never leave each other. The next were two young parents with a toddler, who was in a buggy. The two were laughing, probably at something the baby did before hand. And finally were an elderly couple, which reminded me of my grandparents, the man, who was tall and lean, and the women who was medium height and stout who walked slowly, the two looked so happy, and like they lived their lives, something my grandparents never had time to do. By the time I knew Sidney was beside me I was almost in full sobs,
“Are you okay?”
Sniff “Yea.” Sniff “Don’t worry about it.” I answered still watching this old couple take every step. I think Sidney caught on because he also got really quiet and sat and watched the same old couple I was.
When the couple was to be scene anymore Sidney spoke, but softly like one would do in church; “Do you miss them,”
“Yes, a lot. Do you miss them?” I say looking at his eyes, that have now gotten glossy.
“Him, my grandfather, It was hard, I was away, but yes very much, and I also feel bad for my grandmother, what she would do to be like that couple.”
Right now Sidney didn’t look like a hockey player, he looked like a boy who just wanted to cry, I could see the stress in his shoulders. I know if I were in his shoes I would want someone to be there to talk, so I held his hand and rested my head against his shoulders, and whispered; “Do you want to talk about anything?”
He looked down at me. And simply said “Sometimes I hate my father.”

Chapter 4: My Story
I didn’t know where to start but I knew I needed to start somewhere.
“Yes”
“Did something happen?”
“Yes” I answer looking away.
“Do you want to talk about it?”
The truth is I never talked about it. I went to therapy and people asked but I couldn’t do it. But for some reason Sidney made me feel safe, and I could open up to him.
“I guess. Well I started when I was five or six. My dad lived, breathed, ate hockey. So I started young. I was one of the best at all levels. I played with the boys in the youth but in high school I played on our girls team. I was good, but not great. The teams we played weak teams. I received a scoring title my junior year. My senior year I captained my team, who won the division title.”
“That sounds great!”
But that wasn’t the whole story.
“You see I was hated in every town. In the locker rooms the coaches would say go after 8. I don’t care if she gets hurt. Bring on the stretchers. In our final game it went into overtime. I had a breakaway and one of the defensemen blocked my side. Let’s just say I went and hit the post. I had internal bleeding. And I was in a coma for months.”
I knew it was a lot for him to take in. It was a lot for anyone to take in really.
“Wow” That was all he could say.
“Yea, it’s a lot”
“I don’t know what to say.”
“It’s okay really.”
Now it’s awkward, I stare into the distance with Sidney’s big sweatshirt over my shoulders. I hear my phone buzz in my bag again.
“Do you have to get that?”
“Hmm, oh my phone. No probably not.”
“You should look.”
So I do, I don’t feel like playing that game of no really you should. It was from Abbey: YOU’RE LATE! I looked at the time on my phone. It was pretty late for them.12 am. I needed to get up early tomorrow, and so did the girls. I am guessing Sidney does to.
“It’s getting late,” I say shyly
He glances at his watch. “I guess it is. Let’s go flag down a cab.”
“Okay”
We finally flag down a cab and Sidney opens the door for me. Before I climb in I turn around and open my mouth, but he talks.
“Are you going to get in?”
“I thought you were, yea I guess.” So he was riding in the same cab with me.
“Wer’ too?” The cab driver said in broken English.
“West Village for me,” I whisper to Sidney.
“West Village please sir.” Sidney tells the driver.
“But what about you?” I whisper.
“I need to make sure you get home safely,” He whispers back.
“Oh, okay.” I whisper.
“Why are we whispering?” Sidney replies laughing.
“These are the situations that we do whisper.” I say laughing too.
“Her’ we arw,” The driver announces. “$10.50”
Sidney hands him a bill and says keep the change.
“Can I walk you up”
“I would like that.”
Sidney and I climb into the elevator and just stand there. Gosh this evening couldn’t get any more quite. When the elevator pings to let us know we have reached our destination we both walk off. Sidney follows me to my door. We both stand there.
“I should probably give you this back,” I say pulling off his sweatshirt.
“Keep it, I have a lot and if you have it that means you might want to err, maybe, see me again.”
“I would like that I guess.”
“Okay, good” And before I know his lips are slightly brushing against mine.
“Good night Maddie.”
“Good night Sidney.”
“It’s Sid, remember?”
“I guess I forgot.”
